GMA Vermont Invitational Meet Reminders for GMA Families!

The GMA Vermont Invitational is only days away!  We have about 300 athletes and 11 teams attending the meet.  How exciting that our last home meet is such a popular one!  We are especially looking forward to our athletes having one more GREAT opportunity to race in our home environment.  We hope that our athletes will enjoy their time together, racing their best and reaching toward challenging goals.  We expect that while many of our athletes will meet some of their season goals at this meet, some athletes may miss one or two of their goals.  Let's remember how important these missed opportunities are to the learning process.  The coaches will take the time to work with the athletes before and after each race.  We can help them process their enthusiasm and their disappointment.  We are asking that our parents help in this process as well.  You are the most important people in the lives of your children.  You know best how to console and support your child through difficulties and how to celebrate your child's successes.  Swim meets provide a great environment for sharing and caring about your child, their emotions and their development.

The parent job and food assignments are attached.  Please note that each session's food assignments are on the page after the job assignments.  Please also note that we have many families who are volunteering their support for multiple sessions and in multiple jobs.  Thank you so much.  We have far fewer parents in the morning than in the afternoon, so if you would like to lend an extra hand at the pool, come on by on Sunday morning!

Please remember the following for our last GMA home meet:

1.  Please arrive on deck, ready for stretches 15 minutes prior to the start of our warm-up session.

2.  Please arrive on time for your meet jobs and plan to work your job for the entire session of the meet.  Please utilize a family member during the meet if you need relief from your position.

3.  The swimmers will have a team meeting after each warm-up session.  We will meet in the Ross Hallway.  Swimmers are to dress warmly and wear shoes.

4.  Swimmers and spectators are to use the locker rooms, the pool area and the Ross pool hallway only.  Swimmers or spectators found in other areas of the building will be in violation of our contract with Saint Michael's College.  Please help us in our effort to minimize our impact on the building.

5.  The focus of the GMA coaches and swimmers will be on employing a race plan in each event to improve performance.  The coaches will work with the athletes on the racing technique and racing strategies they need to improve their racing and reach their goals.  The GMA coaches will de-emphasize place, winning and achieving qualifying times.  While these things are rewarding and fun, our focus will be on the process of racing well versus the outcome of each race.

6.  The GMA Age Group swimmers will be expected to pick up all of the trash in the locker rooms and bleachers immediately following their 10 minute warm-down at the end of the meet.  They should be available to leave the pool 20 minutes following the end of the meet.  Please plan accordingly.

7.  The GMA Senior, Sectional and National groups will be expected to return the pool deck and the classroom to their normal operating conditions immediately following their 20 minute warm-down at the end of the meet.  They should be available to leave the pool 30 minutes following the end of the meet.  Please plan accordingly.

We look forward to seeing you at the meet on Sunday.  Thank you for all of your help. SWIM FAST AND HAVE FUN GMA!!
